Laughter as a stress reliever? No joke!

There is a lot of evidence that suggests laughter is healthy for your body; producing both short and long term effects. Just some of the great things laughter can do is increase endorphins (feel-good hormones), soothe tension, improve your immune system and relieve pain. When I was feeling extremely stressed this Fall and overwhelmed with school, there was a comedy show going on the night I had a lot of work to do, but my friends forced me to go to the event. For two hours straight I laughed until I cried and didn’t have a care in the world. Even though I knew I had work to do, I fell asleep that night happy and relaxed.

Laughter is the best medicine and it’s free! So hang out with your friends, go to a comedy show, play a game like charades or catchphrase, watch a funny movie, and find jokes online or in a bookstore. Any way you choose to do it will be fun and entertaining, and will make you feel happier which in turn will make you more relaxed.
